senseBox:edu – DIY Environmental Monitoring Station
With the senseBox:edu you can build and program your own measuring tools. The senseBox is already in use at many schools, universities and educational institutions. Thanks to the large number of possible projects and experiments, it is ideally suited for use in all STEM fields. The basics of programming can be learned with the help of relevant topics or measurement campaigns that can be carried out quickly and easily. The senseBox can be programmed with Arduino or our graphical programming interface Blockly.

A senseBox:edu kit contains the following components:
senseBox Microcontroller with Breadboard
The senseBox microcontroller unit (MCU) has been specially developed for the needs of the senseBox. Therefore the MCU has three main features: it is fast, energy-saving and has a large program memory. The processor is based on the ARM Cortex-M0+ processor from Microchip's SAM D21 family.
Connection piece to connect the senseBox to the Internet. The data of the senseBox is transferred via WLAN (Wifi) into the existing network. The Wifi-Bee is based on the ATWINC1500 microchip from Atmel which has a very low energy consumption and a long range.
With the SD-Bee the data of the senseBox can be stored on an SD card. So you can measure even if there is no internet connection near the senseBox.
With the help of these sensors the following environmental phenomena can be measured:
Temperature & relative humidity
The HDC1080 is a digital humidity and temperature sensor. The sensor has a high accuracy and a very low current consumption and therefore fits ideally to thesenseBox. The sensors are factory calibrated and can be used directly.
Air Pressure & Temperature
This sensor measures air pressure and temperature and is based on the Bosch BMP280 sensor.
Illuminance & UV Radiation
Two sensors are combined on this senseBox component:
The light intensity is measured with the TSL45315 sensor from AMS-TAOS. This sensor detects the light conditions similar to the human eye and outputs the brightness values directly in lux, with a wide dynamic range (3 lux to 220k lux).
The second sensor is a Vishay VEML6070 ultraviolet (UV) light sensor. It converts the intensity of the sun's UV light into digital data. The sensor has excellent UV sensitivity and linearity via Filtron™ technology.
With the ultrasonic sensor HC-SR04 it is possible to measure distances or to build counters. The distance sensor is suitable for measurement in the range between 2 cm and approx. 3 m.
This condenser microphone is equipped with an amplifier and can transmit the microphone signals directly to the senseBox. It can pick up sounds between 58 dB and 110 dB.
