50 maal 'elektronica van vroeger'. In het januarinummer 2005 van het elektronica-maandblad Elektor zag de rubriek 'Retrotronica' voor het eerst het licht. Onder supervisie van Elektor-redacteur Jan Buiting wordt sindsdien elke maand een stukje 'elektronica van vroeger' opgerakeld. Tegenwoordig worden de meeste elektronische schakelingen opgebouwd rond een microcontroller die het 'denkwerk' voor zijn rekening neemt. Nog niet zo heel lang geleden echter bestonden die dingen nog niet (of waren ze onbetaalbaar); niettemin slaagden de ontwerpers van toen er (naar huidige maatstaven) verbijsterend goed in om uiterst betrouwbaar en nauwkeurig werkende schakelingen en apparatuur te bouwen. Veel apparaten blijken, na jaren op een stoffige zolder of in een vochtige kelder te hebben gestaan, na een schoonmaakactie nog perfect te functioneren -- er is dus geen reden om de 'elektronica van vroeger' met een meewarige blik te bekijken; integendeel: het zijn vaak wondertjes van vernuft en vakmanschap! The State of Hollow State Audio in the Second Decade of the 21st Century Vacuum-tube (or valve, depending upon which side of the pond you live on) technology spawned the Age of Electronics early in the 20th Century. Until the advent of solid-state electronics near mid-century, hollow-state devices were the only choice. But following the invention of the transistor (after their process fell to reasonable levels), within a couple of decades, the death of vacuum tubes was widely heralded. Yet here we are some five decades later, and hollow-state equipment is enjoying something of a comeback, especially in the music and high-end audio industries. Many issues surround hollow-state audio: Does it produce—as some claim—better sound? If so, is there science to back up these claims? How do hollow-state circuits work? How do you design hollow-state audio circuits? If hollow-state equipment fails, how do you go about troubleshooting and repairing it? Can we recreate some of the classic hollow-state audio devices for modern listening rooms and recording studios? How can we intelligently modify hollow-state amplifiers to our taste? Practical Introduction to 3D Modeling from Enclosure to Front Panel Embedding a vintage component, creating a professional looking home for a circuit board, or even designing a complex apparatus complete with a chassis – these and many other challenges turn into a stimulating pleasure with FreeCAD. Once you have internalized the basic processes, there are virtually no limits to your imagination. Starting to use a new software is never straightforward – especially with a tool as versatile as FreeCAD. Manageable, but at the same time easily usable individual components provide the starting point in this book. Putting these components together later results in assemblies. In the FreeCAD universe, a workable trajectory is demonstrated. The described procedure is illustrative so the examples are easily applied to custom tasks. The devices were made by the author and illustrated with photos. Creating a 3D design is requiring some effort but the initial investment pays off soon. Besides the impressive spatial representation of the projects, the extracted drawings yield a solid base for documentation and production. Extended FreeCAD capabilities like the unfolding of sheet metal parts enormously add to efficiency and pushes models forward into practical assembly. Soon you will definitely not want to do without FreeCAD!

PIC und AVR verstehen In diesem Buch werden wir uns ausschließlich mit 8-Bit-Mikrocontrollern beschäftigen, und zwar mit Mikrocontrollern der 8-Bit-PIC- und der 8-Bit-AVR-Mikrocontroller-Linien. Bei der PIC-Familie handelt es sich dabei um PIC10, PIC12, PIC16 und PIC18; bei der AVR-Familie um ATtiny, ATmega und ATxmega. Die vorgestellten 8-Bit-Chips sind für sehr viele Anwendungen vollkommen ausreichend und preislich auch attraktiv. Durch die Lektüre des Buches erhalten Sie ein fundiertes Wissen über die genannten 8-Bit-Mikrocontroller, über ihre Architektur, ihre Pinbelegungen und über ihre Programmierung. Weil wir uns in diesem Buch mit den Grundlagen der Architektur der PICs und AVRs vertraut machen möchten, werden wir auch für alle PIC- und AVR-Anwendungen Assembler einsetzen, denn die Assembler-Sprache erlaubt es, die Technik im Detail kennenzulernen. Wenn man wirklich wissen möchte, was sich im Mikrocontroller abspielt, greift man zu Assembler. Damit hat man die beste Gelegenheit, sehr nah an den Kern zu kommen. Und wenn man schon einen Mikrocontroller-Typ kennengelernt und verstanden hat, ist es bei dem nächsten deutlich einfacher, auch wenn er von einem anderen Hersteller kommt. Bei anderen Programmiersprachen bleibt die Technik immer ziemlich tief versteckt. Die Assembler-Beispiele sind so einfach gestaltet, dass sie jeder mit den im Buch aufgezeigten Programmiertechniken erstellen kann. Weil es sich um einfache Beispiele handelt, werden wir sie alle auf einer universellen Lochrasterplatine realisieren. Manche sind auch auf einem Experimentier-Breadboard umsetzbar.
