Het boek beschrijft de werking van digitale circuits vanaf schakelingen met poorten tot aan de werking van een processor. Van elke schakeling of systeem kan de werking worden gesimuleerd. Hierbij wordt het gedrag van componenten en het verloop van signalen in de tijd op ingangen, uitgangen en relevante verbindingslijnen zichtbaar gemaakt. Zo wordt in detail gevisualiseerd wat het gedrag is van de hardware als er een instructie wordt uitgevoerd. From SRPP and Mu-Follower to OTL Designs Tube amplifiers suffer from distortion. Fortunately, circuits such as the SRPP amplifier, mu-follower, and beta-follower produce minimal distortion even at output voltages of 50 to 100 Vpeak. These designs are often published with errors. Without a sound understanding of the theory, it is easy to arrive at a flawed design. In the first section of this book, we investigate the origin of distortion, while in the second we investigate the design of and SRPP and a mu-follower. On the internet we can find the most exotic designs. Evaluating them teaches us that these designs often make matters worse rather than better. In the chapter on incorrect SRPPs and mu-followers, we sometimes see bizarre and misguided designs where using a simple single-triode amplifier would perform much better. Push-pull output stages also exist. A great number of them are examined, and their similarity to the SRPP is discussed. This is done especially with the help of the theory behind the OTL based on the ‘mother’ of all OTLs, the Philips HF303. Finally, attention is given to frequency characteristics and technical matters such as the supply voltage and the filament power supply. To illustrate these points, there are a few designs covering the subjects discussed. This book presents much new theory that has not been published before. It is often an eye-opener, showing that many things have a beautiful and unexpected simplicity.

Wie enigszins bekend is met moderne microprocessor systemen als Arduino, kent ongetwijfeld ook de problemen met dit soort kaarten. Ze zijn te duur om voor elk project een aparte kaart aan te schaffen en zijn bovendien nogal fors van formaat. Het aardige van de ATtiny is dat de schijn bedriegt. Het lijkt een klein IC met een beperkt toepassingsgebied, maar het heeft een verbazingwekkend scala aan (speelse) mogelijkheden. Dit boek beschrijft de enorme veelzijdigheid van de ATtiny microcontroller aan de hand van ongeveer vijftig leuke elektronica projecten, speciaal gericht op de beginner.  De meeste ontwerpen zijn volledig uitgewerkt, enkele zijn meer als ontwerpidee gepresenteerd. De inhoudsopgave laat zien dat we ons op vele terreinen zullen begeven, van zonnevolger tot helling indicator. Dit boek is beslist geen theorieboek. Het is een boek dat gelezen zal worden met de soldeerbout in de hand. Voor het programmeren van de ATtiny maken we dankbaar gebruik van een Arduino kaart. Als de Arduino ingesteld word als programmer, kunnen we er de meeste Arduino “sketches” mee overzetten naar de ATtiny. We wensen u veel plezier met het nabouwen van de schakelingen.

Ook in deze tijd klinken buizenversterkers nog steeds fantastisch, misschien wel mooier dan ooit. Nu hebben we immers de beschikking over moderne materialen als ringkern uitgangstransformatoren, uiterst hoogwaardige weerstanden en condensatoren en vele soorten goed klinkend draad. Ook de moderne geluidsbronnen als de CD speler en de nieuwste hoogwaardige luidsprekers laten beter dan ooit horen hoe goed de buizenversterker weergeeft. Dit boek van Menno van der Veen kijkt niet alleen theoretisch naar buizenversterkers, maar vooral ook naar de ontwerpfase waarin besluiten moeten worden genomen over de doelen en eisen van de versterker. Hoe hangen deze samen met subjectieve en objectieve criteria? Welke schakelingen klinken vooral prachtig en waarom doen ze dat? Stel dat je een versterker gaat ontwikkelen en in de handel wilt brengen, tegen welke problemen loop je dan aan? En wat te zeggen van het belang en de betekenis van metingen? Zeggen ze nu iets of zeggen ze niets? Dankzij de grote rekenkracht van de computer kunnen we tegenwoordig dieper meten dan ooit. Hoe pas je deze technieken toe bij buizenversterkers? STM32 Nucleo family of processors are manufactured by STMicroelectronics. These are low-cost ARM microcontroller development boards. This book is about developing projects using the popular Nucleo development board. In the early chapters of the book, the architecture of the Nucleo family is briefly described.
