Schaltungen, Software und Empfangspraxis Die Kurzwellen-Empfangstechnik entwickelt sich ständig weiter. Im Mai 2007 wurde von Elektor das "Software Defined Radio mit USB-Schnittstelle" vorgestellt. Ziel war ein möglichst einfacher Empfänger, der durch den Einsatz geeigneter Software überzeugende Empfangsergebnisse liefert. Die benötigten Programme stehen auf der Elektor-Website und im Internet gratis zur Verfügung. Schon nach wenigen Monaten hatte dieser neue Empfänger eine weite Verbreitung gefunden. Zahlreiche Software-Autoren unterstützten das Projekt. Auch Bedienungshinweise, Erweiterungen sowie Tipps und Tricks findet man im Netz. Die Vielfalt der Möglichkeiten erschwert die Orientierung. Deshalb wurde dieses Buch geschrieben. Das Ziel ist ein Überblick über Aufbau, Software und Bedienung des SDR. Außerdem werden Selbstbauprojekte vorgestellt, die es erlauben, mit geringsten Kosten eigene Empfänger zu entwerfen; denn das Thema entwickelt sich laufend weiter...

De Arduino Pro Mini is een microcontroller board gebaseerd op de ATmega328P. Het heeft 14 digitale in-/uitgangspinnen (waarvan er 6 kunnen worden gebruikt als PWM-uitgangen), 6 analoge ingangen, een on-board resonator, een reset-knop, en gaten voor het monteren van pin headers. Een six-pin header kan worden aangesloten op een FTDI-kabel of Sparkfun breakout board om USB-voeding en communicatie te bieden aan de board. De Arduino Pro Mini is bedoeld voor semi-permanente installatie in voorwerpen of tentoonstellingen. Computer vision is probably the most exciting branch of image processing, and the number of applications in robotics, automation technology and quality control is constantly increasing. Unfortunately entering this research area is, as yet, not simple. Those who are interested must first go through a lot of books, publications and software libraries. With this book, however, the first step is easy. The theoretically founded content is understandable and is supplemented by many practical examples. Source code is provided with the specially developed platform-independent open source library IVT in the programming language C/C++. The use of the IVT is not necessary, but it does make for a much easier entry and allows first developments to be quickly produced. The authorship is made up of research assistants of the chair of Professor Ruediger Dillmann at the Institut für Technische Informatik (ITEC), Universitaet Karlsruhe (TH). Having gained extensive experience in image processing in many research and industrial projects, they are now passing this knowledge on. Among other subjects, the following are dealt with in the fundamentals section of the book: Lighting, optics, camera technology, transfer standards, camera calibration, image enhancement, segmentation, filters, correlation and stereo vision. The practical section provides the efficient implementation of the algorithms, followed by many interesting applications such as interior surveillance, bar code scanning, object recognition, 3-D scanning, 3-D tracking, a stereo camera system and much more.

Our goal was to make the book as practical as possible. The material is intended for immediate application with a small amount of theory. Yet, the theory is important as a foundation that saves time and effort by disabusing the readers of potential misconceptions. Specifically, upon having a firm understanding of photovoltaic physics, you will not be inclined to fruitlessly search for 90% efficient solar panels! We want our readers to be the “doers”. If the book gets covered in grime and some pages become torn while you are building your power plant – this is the best compliment to us. The book covers solar and wind energy. Also, a curious power source based on manure is discussed as well, giving the doers an opportunity to further develop the manure fuel cell. It is important to note that there are many companies offering installation of complete solar solutions. Upon installing the panels, the system is not owned by the customer. Therefore, there is no freedom for experimentation and optimization. Also, none can beat the cost of a DIY solution as well as the ultimate satisfaction. All that is written here is a result of us building a renewable energy solution in Southern California. As the book was completed, the energy began flowing!
